Memory Lane

Today I was in Rock Hill, South Carolina to visit my Grandma - Dorothy Huss Rhodes.  Grandma will be 89 on her birthday in June.  We went to Grandma's home town of Gastonia, North Caroline today to see the house that her father built in 1922.  Grandma was born in 1923 and was the first child born in the home.

It is amazing to think that my Great-Grandfather built this house by himself - with only hand tools and that it is still standing today. He was President of the Gastonia Central Labor Union and later became Vice-President of the North Carolina State Federation.

We also stopped by Temple Baptist Church where my Mom and Dad met in 1960 and were married there on November 23, 1961.  Dad was also baptized in this church.

Cherished Memories.

  1. My whole family (James Bryant Family) were members of The Temple Baptist in Gastonia, NC. We go back to the old church and Dr. C. E. Phillips. While looking at the pictures I kind of got a little laugh. The Temple and Loray Baptist were building new sanctuaries about the same time. Temple's people and Lora's people were all friends. Some of Temple's members made the remark that the steeple on Loray made it look like it was a Catholic Church. Some of the Lora's members sent back word that Temple's steeple looked like a commode ball. I will be 75 years old Jan 29, 2013. I was 12 years old when this happened but I will never forget it. Thanks so much for the memories. In the last few weeks a Temple friend of mine and I had been reminiscing about the Temple. I have a church directory from the Temple with information and pictures of the members (circa 1965). I have misplaced it right now. I had been looking for it. That is why I looked up the Temple on the WEB. Again, Thanks for the memories.
