Fun with Picmonkey

If you don't already know about Picmonkey, get over there and check it out! Mom saw that they had Halloween stuff on there already, so I had to play around. Here are some fun pics I created!

The one on the left is my boyfriend and the one on the right is his best friend.

Halloween Printable

So I was searching Pinterest last night for a printable for my Halloween mantel and just couldn't quite find the right look.  I was looking for something a little more vintage (like ME!) and remembered this great graphic from The Graphics Fairy -

So I decided to make my own Printable - What do you think?

I made this with PicMonkey, using one of their backgrounds and several architectural and ephemera pieces from The Graphics Fairy, along with the witch graphic.

It is just the right touch for my mantel! But wait, what is that beside it? Yet ANOTHER $ STORE PUMPKIN ! Really, we all need to get a grip.  I bet almost every crafty blog in America has revamped one of these babies ~ but who can resist? They are just begging for a makeover.

So I will leave you with.............

Burlap Spider Wreath

Ok, seriously, I freely admit to being the laziest person on the planet, but this little wreath took all of about 15 minutes to make and everything but the burlap came from the Dollar Store! How much lazier could I get?

As my sweet loving hubby would say "Easy & Cheap, just like you!" Yes he thinks he's a comedian! But he always makes us laugh!

I've been drooling over all the lovely burlap creations on Pinterest lately and I finally picked some up this weekend at Hobby Lobby.

Here's the How To on this SUPER EASY HALLOWEEN WREATH -

1. $ store pool noodle - join ends with duct tape

2. 1/2 yard burlap - cut 2 1/2" strips and wrap around wreath securing with hot glue.

3. $ store spider web - secure with thread to top and bottom of wreath and stabilize with hot glue

4. $ store ribbon - make bow and glue on to wreath

5. $ store spiders - glue on

Total cost was less than $7 and if I wasn't so lazy I probably could have made the spider web with yarn and saved a buck, but that just seems like too much work!!!

I made this to go on top of this giant framed medallion over our fireplace and used a small command adhesive hook to hang it on top of the glass.  

Sorry for the crummy picture - cannot figure out how to shoot this without the glare.

It looks so much better than what you see here.  Once I've got the mantel decorated, I'll try to snap a better shot, but I think you get the drift.  I took this picture standing on a stool making it look off center, but when you see it when standing on the floor it looks centered - really - I swear it does!!!

All in all, it turned out really cute and does exactly what I wanted it to do - make the picture look a little more in the spirit.  Think I'll do something like it for Thanksgiving too - maybe with leaves and acorns.

I may need help with my Dollar Store addiction soon - anyone have any ideas?

Dollar Store Skeleton Revamp

Well, I finally finished my Dollar Store Skeleton Head Revamps that I've been planning since we saw all the blinged out skeleton heads at Home Goods earlier in the month (see the post and pictures here).

What do you think? I LOVE them and think they turned out even better than I imagined.

They started out like this -

And ended up like this - 

They are incredibly easy to make and you probably don't need instructions, but I thought I would go ahead and put together a brief tutorial.

Supplies -

2 Dollar Store Skeleton Heads
12 x 12 Scrapbook Paper -
      2 sheets black & white patterned paper, 1 sheet black cardstock,
      1 sheet purple patterned paper
2 Dollar Store Glass Candlesticks
Purple Glitter
Clear Jewels (self adhesive)
Black Spray Paint
Black Craft Paint
Mod Podge

Tools -
Martha Stewart Scoring Board
Glue Gun
1 1/2" Circle Punch
Border Punch
Fine Line Black Permanent Marker
Adhesive
Paint Brushes

Instructions -

1.  Paint your candlesticks and one skeleton head black.  I used Rustoleum Hammered Metal in Black and I love the slight texture it gives to the candlesticks.

Black & White Head -

2. Tear one 12 x 12 Black & White patterned scrapbook paper into small pieces and Mod Podge on to skeleton head.  The paper I used was really too heavy (probably cardstock) so I really had to work it down onto the head with lots of MP.  I actually painted small sections of the head with MP, then painted the back of the paper with it too before laying it on the head and going over it again with MP.  Let dry overnight.  It will look like this -

3. Paint the eye sockets, nose and mouth with black craft paint. I used a fine line black permanent marker to outline the teeth.

4.  Adhere jewels around eye sockets.

Ruffles - (this is for both skeletons

5.  Cut 4 - 2 1/4 x 12 inch strips of  black paper.  Punch one edge of each strip with border punch.

6.  Punch 8  1 1/2" circles from black cardstock.

7.  Score each strip every 1/2" and fold.  Join 2 pieces together with adhesive and glue black circle on top using glue gun. Check out YouTube for all kinds of videos on how to make these rosettes.  I just kind of made it up as I went along and they turned out pretty good.  This is the first time I've used this board and I have to say that it is an awesome tool!

8.  Cut 2 - 2 1/4 x 12" strips of B&W patterned paper and 2 from the purple paper.

9.  Repeat the scoring process, but skip the edge punch.  Glue one circle to the bottom of the rosette and glue one circle to the top - using hot glue.  Then glue one black rosette on top of each of the patterned rosettes and glue to the top of each candlestick.

Purple Glittered Head - 

10.  Using the black spray painted head - Cover in Mod Podge and then sprinkle (heavy) with purple glitter.

11.  Then using generous Hot Glue, glue heads on the top of the rosettes.

Then sit back and enjoy your AWESOME SPOOKY SKELETON HEADS!

Sneak Peek - Halloween Skeleton

I couldn't wait to share a sneak peek of my Dollar Store skeleton head that I'm working on!  I have big plans for it, so check back in a couple of days to see the finished product.

Crockpot Pork Chalupa

We love spicy food at our house and fell in love with this recipe that Kathie Crites introduced to us.  Not sure where she got it from but it is delicious!  We serve it on tortillas with all the fixings and it makes enough to feed a big crowd.

Crockpot Pork Chalupa

     3 lb. pork loin
     1 lb. dry pinto beans
     2 cloves garlic
     2 tblsp. chili powder
     1 tblsp. cumin
     1 cup chopped green chilis
       (I usually thrown in 2 or 3 of the small cans and call it enough)
     1 tblsp. salt
     1 can Rotel Tomatoes
     Scant Water to Cover

Mix spices with green chilis and Rotel in a small bowl.  Layer pork loin in slow cooker, pour in dry beans and chili & Rotel mixture.  Cover with water just until everything is covered (do not add too much water) and stir.  Cook on low 8-10 hours.

Use forks to shred pork loin when done.  Serve on tortillas with cheese, chopped onions, tomatoes, shredded lettuce and sour cream. Enjoy!


This reheats well and even freezes well.  It really does make a huge batch and we always have left overs. Let us know what you think!

MIA !!!

Sorry that we haven't posted anything lately.  I've been hit by a nasty stomach bug and have been out of commission since last Thursday!  Leigh has had her hands full taking care of me and her Dad (he's still recovering from surgery in late July).

Thank Heavens for our beautiful daughter! 

Hope to be better and posting again real soon! We have lots of Halloween crafts that we want to share.

My Wish Scrapbook

Thought I would share the scrapbook that I made Leigh for her 21st birthday-she's 25 now, so I know it's old, but hopefully you don't care!

I love using song lyrics on scrapbook pages and knew that My Wish by Rascal Flatts would be the perfect song for her 21st.  It said everything that I truly felt and hoped for her - and still do!

I apologize in advance for the awful pictures!  Took them with my Iphone and they are a little wonky!
