Vintage Glass Globe Ghosties

Earlier in the year I ran across some interesting glass globes at our local thrift shop. They must have been for a vintage light fixture as they were in some very old individual cardboard boxes. I'm thinking they might have been in a school or hospital maybe? What do you think? If anyone out there knows what they were used for we sure would like to know.

Well, regardless of what they started out as, they are now adorable Ghosties!

All they needed was a bit of black vinyl, some ribbon and plastic spiders and they are just the cutest pair of Ghosts you've ever seen! 

And they have a beautiful glow when you place a battery operated tea light under them -

Halloween Costume circa 1987

For those of you that don't know, not only am I a Pinterest Junkie, but I have a severe addiction to Instagram. Recently I've discovered some amazing vintage stores on Instagram, much to the hubby's chagrin, not to mention his pocket book!!! Poor guy, he puts up with a lot!

Tonight as I was scrolling through my Instagram feed I followed a hashtag to #upstatefabric and saw a blast from the past. Upstate Vintage & Threads had a fabric panel that was the same one I used to make a Halloween costume for Leigh in 1987. She was almost 10 months old then and I found this adorable Trick-or-Treat bag panel and turned it into a costume for her. I've always made the kids costumes and this was an easy way to make a semi-homemade one.

I apologize in advance for the terrible cell phone photos, but I was just too lazy tonight to break out the big camera!

Here is a terrible cell phone photo of a Polaroid - yes I said Polaroid from 1987!!! Wow, have times changed! Back in 1987 we didn't even have cell phones! But look at my adorable babies! A Pirate and a Pumpkin!

I still have that little costume and we dress up a teddy bear in it each year.

The hat is my favorite part. I made it out of felt leaves that were outlined in sharpie. It's adorable!

Vintage Halloween Vignette

This year, Halloween is all about the Vintage! We shared our Vintage Halloween Tree last week and this week we've finished the scene with lots of added vintage accents. I've fallen in love with Beistle die cuts and found one from 1989 at the thrift store for just .10 !! Popped it on a piece of framed scrapbook paper and it looks amazing next to the tree.

Here's a close up of the Beistle Witch - 

I didn't use glass over her as she's a bit too large for the 8 1/2 x 11 frame but that just shows off her colors and character better, and since she's adhered with foam dots, she looks like she is flying out of the frame.

Right above the witch is a light switch. Ugh! Why do builders place light switches and thermostats in the most inconvenient places? Can't they place it next to the door frame instead of 2 feet over? Things that make you go hmmm.....

 

But that's ok, because I covered it up!!! We have a membership to Birch Box and I simply glued the bottom of one of the boxes to a 4 x 6 frame (after I had placed the print in it) and covered the box with ribbon. Two straight pins are all that was needed to keep it in place over the light switches.

On the other side of the tree are two Beistle reproductions that I printed and framed.

I printed both on cardstock and then affixed the print to a piece of black cardstock before cutting them out. The owl got a sparkly moon set behind him. 

The tissue paper fan with the jack-o-lantern came from Dollar Tree and I think it must have been last year's stock, since I only paid .25 for it. It looks perfect with a pennant banner and a paper straw and pom pom garland.

I've always had a thing for stained glass candle holders and found these two about 10 years ago. I glued one onto a glass candlestick with E600 to give him some height. They are the perfect vintage accent along with my paper mache cat that my Mom gave to me a couple of years ago. It came from Hobby Lobby and they have them again this year in case you are looking for one.

I found this candle holder at our local thrift shop and gave it a little height with a home made pedestal. The owl came from Target a couple of years ago and gets a lift from a couple of glass tea light holders glued together with E6000. The holders were painted black after they were glued together and a fan of scrapbook paper added on top before the owl was glued on to it.

I know it's early still, but I'm so glad we have this up because I want to enjoy it as long as I possibly can! We will probably be out of town for Thanksgiving this year, so this will probably be swapped out in November for a Christmas Tree. I'm kind of looking forward to being able to decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving!
